Shohei was seconded to a law firm in Shanghai in 2006, where he co-operated with Chinese lawyers on some specific cases, for both his and their Chinese clients, and he devoted himself to deepening Higashimachi's relationship with China. He also contributed to the launch of our Imabari branch, and served as the representative of the branch from its establishment in January until June 2011. He then moved to London and read International Commercial Law in the Master’s course at University College London in 2011-2012. After being awarded an “LLM International Commercial Law” from the university, Shohei was seconded to several leading shipping and insurance law firms and a P&I club in London before returning to Higashimachi in December 2012.In 2014, Shohei was seconded to a Hong Kong law firm as an intern of the exchange programme between Hong Kong Law Society and Japan Federation of Bar Association.

Shohei has a wide range of experience in charterparty, MoA, and other shipping contract disputes, ship finance and casualty works, including primary responses and the limitation procedures. He also has some experience in insurance, employment, bankruptcy and other corporate disputes, as well as in negotiations, drafting of documents for a variety of international transactions, and attendances at closings for contracts of sales of ships, for both foreign and Japanese clients.

Shohei speaks fluent English, as well as basic conversational Chinese.
